One more tragedy in Film Industry, A Renowned filmmaker dies

S V Ramanan, the Renowned filmmaker and the Golden voice of Radio passed away in Chennai early this morning at his residence in RA Puram . SV Ramanan, a pioneer in radio and Television advertising, and a filmmaker, took his last breath early this morning. He was the son of the legendary K Subrahmanyam, who was one of the earliest Tamil filmmakers.

S V Ramanan has worked in popular movies like Dorababu Shobanam, Uruvangal Maralam. His previous film to hit the theatres was Dorababu Shobanam in the year 2022.

S V Ramanan’ voice made the advertisements instantly recognizable. Some of the popular radio advertisements of the 80s and 90s, including the ones he did for Rathna Fan House and Ranjana Store, are still remembered by his fans.

From spiritualism to arts and architecture to nationalism, Ramanan’ documentaries are widely acclaimed. His sister Dr Padma Subrahmanyam is a popular classical Bharata Natyam dancer. And  she is also a research scholar, teacher, choreographer, Indologist and author. 

In 1983, S V Ramanan directed and composed the music for Uruvangal Maralam, which had Y Gee Mahendra and Suhasini in the lead roles. Top actors like Sivaji Ganesan, Kollywood superstar Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and  Jaishankar appeared in guest roles in the film. He has also directed documentary movies and serials.
