100 years of NTR
100 years of NTR

Today is Nandamuri Tharaka Rama Rao’s 100th Jayanthi. Born on 28th May 1923, in a humble household in Nimmakuru, Krishna District, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao became the most celebrated actor in Telugu Cinema and also three times Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

NTR started his film career with the movie Mana Desam  which was released in 1949.  He gained popularity in the 1950s when he became well known for his portrayals of Hindu deities, especially Krishna, Karna and Rama. NTR built a movie empire of about 320 movies. His discipline in life was mirrored in his way of working in his movies. For his role in Narthanasala, he  learnt the dance form Kuchpudi from the dancer Vempati Chinna Satyam. His movies like Maya Bazaar,  Pathala Bhairavi, Missamma, Lava Kusha, Gundamma Katha and many more are gems that cannot be remade.

After his career in  the film industry,  NTR entered politics. He founded  TDP in 1982 and served three tumultuous terms as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh between 1983 and 1995.

On the occasion of 100th birth anniversary of TDP founder Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao , TRS ministers Malla Reddy and Puvvada Ajay Kumar, MP Nama Nageswara Rao, MLAs Maganti Gopinath and Arekapudi Gandhi visited NTR Ghat on Saturday and paid tributes to him.
